Oberlin Fencing: The Flaming Blades

Website: http://www.oberlin.edu/stuorg/fencing

The Oberlin Flaming Blades is the oldest chartered student run club at Oberlin College. The club has a long illustrious history of fencing since 1929. We're co-ed and most members of the team have experience in all three disciplines: Sabre, Foil, and Epee. Teaching is largely cooperative; the members of the team assist one another and pass on experience, but we also get freelance coaching. The club competes in a number of USFA and NCAA tournaments during the course of the year and hosts local tournaments as well. Our team colors are the rainbow.

Last year, 2007, we placed 9th in national NCAA Men's epee.

The Flaming Blades welcomes all experienced or inexperienced fencers. If you have prior fencing experience, stop at a practice. If you haven't fenced before, take the "Beginning Fencing" EXCO offered every semester. All necessary fencing equipment is provided. It's not required that you appreciate ninjas and pirates, but it helps.

The EXCO has been taught every semester for a couple decades. We usually have about 20 students learn the basics of foil, and compete with each other at the end of the semester.
