We finished reading through the second act and the Requiem by lunch. There were many questions and comments about the ending, as one could expect, such as why does Willy make his choice? When did he decide that this action was the best to take? Why does Linda make that statement at the end of the play? Many questions were answered, and many good points were made. However, some were left to be explored.
When we returned from break, they began blocking the first act. It was an interesting transition to explore the text through table work and suddenly having a room full of actors on their feet. The text had already been divided into scenes for this production and with the added reference of stage directions, the day went smoothly. Keeping in mind the notes from the read-through, the cast made some very informed decisions about their characters.
Although the schedule only called for actors in select scenes in the first act, I noticed that others who were not called for the day came to watch. When not working, it is still a wonderful experience to watch the progress. The rehearsal rooms were filled with hard-working professionals, which required us all to work that much harder. We (the students) are able to benefit greatly when allowed the opportunity to watch more experienced individuals.
