Behind the scenes at Oberlin Opera Theater

Oberlin Opera Theater Presents: STREET SCENE
››› October 31, 2014 | Posted By Daniel McGrew

This fall, Oberlin Opera Theater presents Weill's Street Scene, sponsored in part by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music.

Based on a Pulitzer Prize winning play by Elmer Rice, the opera takes place in 1946 on the doorstep of a battered tenement on the East Side of Manhattan.

Weill's score is as colorful and varied as the cast of characters it employs, with irresistible, Puccini-esque melodies, weary, blues tunes, and numerous theatre songs with all the razzle and dazzle one would expect from music of the Great White Way.

Street Scene exists at a captivating intersection between musical theatre and operatic traditions. And it offers the best of each. There's even an extended dance sequence. Yes, a dance break.

And when singers dance...suffice to say you'll want to be there.

Don't miss Street Scene.

Performances take place November 5, 7, 8, and 9 in Hall Auditorium. Tickets may be purchased online, by calling 800-371-0178, or by visiting the Hall Auditorium Box Office weekdays from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m.
